I Won The Lottery!

As I watched my husband rush out of the house this morning with a zillion things to do (things he was dreading, but all part of his job), I looked down at the fabulous book in my hand and thought, "How is it possible (or fair) that my job is to read fantastic books and watch incredible movies, all in the name of research?

Are you kidding me?

My bedside table is swimming in books, and my netflix account is locked and loaded. My TV is poised with the latest movie (in this case, AWAY WE GO) and my twitter feed is a plethora of creativity. I spend my days taking notes about interesting quirks, or photographing unusual events. I read recipes with an eye towards metaphor, and smell flowers, thinking of poetry. My boss, otherwise known as me, suggests I work in my pjs with frequent coffee breaks. "And feel free to work-out whenever you want to," she adds as she eats another Twizzler.

How did I get this lucky? Paid or not, I am living in some kind of dream, having won the lottery of all jobs.

And I pray to God I never have to wake up.

LOVE THIS POST. As someone who has worked jobs that weren't fun or engaging at all, I feel so lucky to do what I love every single day. I might be poor, but I'm happy dammit! XOXO

That's how I'll feel if I'm ever able to write full-time...and I hope I never take it for granted!

So, so true. Hopefully there will be some money at the end of it, but either way, writing is the best job ever.

I dream of the day when I can write all day. I'm not sure it will ever actually arrive, but it is a great dream! Enjoy every moment of it! :-)

That sounds like a hell of a life, Katie! You go!

This is the end goal of my current 5-year plan. (I loved Away We Go. It made me cry! Happy tears.)

This is why we are such a connected and supportive community- we have much gratitude for being able to write and share stories with others. I mean, really, what other job (except maybe teaching and sometimes we become possessive of our stuff) would you find people unselfishly sending shout-outs to their colleagues for finding an agent, getting a book deal, release of a novel- all the goals we all aspire to. Wouldn't happen in business between competitors!

So, so, true. And I love what Gail said, too:

"This is why we are such a connected and supportive community- we have much gratitude for being able to write and share stories with others."

I raise my twizzler in sisterhood-dom-er, not that I would be eating one for breakfast or anything.

Oh I love the *raising of Twizzlers* HA!

Yes, it's true. Whether we get to think up stories part-time or full-time, we are truly blessed.

Okay, I feel a little jealous because I do have to go to work at a job that is becoming less and less rewarding all the time, thanks to No Child Left Behind and the Standardized Testing Craze.

However, I should feel lucky that I have several weeks over the summer off -- to devote entirely to writing -- and that when I do have to go to work, I get to work with some marvelous kids.

Bliss!!!

I needed to hear this today! I'm covered in a mountain of laundry and dreading sitting in the hot sun while watching my kids at the pool . . . but what do I do while I'm sitting with them at the pool??? I READ.

And, I need to remember to be thankful that I'm not having to come home after being at an office all day to face the laundry mountain.

Yes. Life is good.

Oh, I'm so envious! But happy for you. Btw, I love the "Plot Heads get Lit" line.
