Writing, Miyagi-style.

Ummm... Is it weird that I'm dying to see this? Is it because I remember the original movie? Or, is it because succeeding as a writer feels like this trailer sometimes?

I think it's the latter.

I have always equated pursuing publication to being an athlete because that's what it feels like. It's mentally grueling and requires so much work, but it's so rewarding at the same time. This trailer reminded me again that writing, like sports, takes HONOR, and COURAGE, and STRENGTH to succeed.

We have to believe.

We have to work hard.

And, we have to never give up.

And all those times little Jaden (Will Smith's son) has to take his coat off and put it back on is like when we have to revise.

And revise.

And revise.

And revise.

Because one day...

We'll be ready.

To take the publishing world by storm.

Thanks Mr. Miyagi!!!

I am kind of excited about this movie, too. Maybe it's that I love to see the underdog triumph...because in my heart, I will always be the underdog.

(My favorite superhero growing up was Underdog*)

Shelley

*I accidentally typed Underdong, which isn't what I was going for at all....sheesh.

Ha! I loved the original Karate Kid so much (and I sooo wanted to be Elizabeth Shue).

Unfortunately, my dad did not share my passion. He STILL is mad at me for telling him to go and see it. Maybe I'll recommend this one to him . . . think he'll come around??

Amen, sister! I think the analogy is eerily similar and brings back memories of hating gym class...but I will now come up with a different analogy, so that I don't quit writing too.

I'll come back when I'm not at work to see the trailer, but I agree with all your statements. Writing is like being an athlete! Now if only my body reflected all my hard work...

Yay Emma! I'm so glad you like it!

Shelley, you crack me up. Underdong. haha!

Thanks Nisa! It's true though.

SF, I'm thinking daddy won't like this one either :-(

Jonathon, DO NOT QUIT!

And Elana, your MIND is strong which is better than rock hard abs. Usually...

Darn, my job blocked the video. I'll have to check back in this evening at home.

Ok, so I have to admit... I never saw the first Karate Kid. I was too busy doing very important things like poisoning my sister and playing Tooth Invaders on my Vic 20. I'll watch the new one!

Have a great weekend!

Tamika and Jeanette, you MUST go see this new one and we'll chat :-)

And Daisy, I think you're right. I'm prepping for a VLOG in the near future :-)

Too true, Katie! And, just like in The Karate Kid, the journey is the biggest reward.

Thanks for the post.

I love this post. I'm dying to see this movie, too, but I think it's because I love Jaden Smith. Thanks for the positive energy. :-)

Love this post and the comparison! You crack me up. I have to say my husband is looking forward to the remake moreso than I am. But maybe now I'll get more out of it!

Oh. My. Gosh! There's a new Karate Kid movie?!?!?! I cannot wait to see it!

Love your list, Katie, absolutely love it. Heading to the tattoo parlor now to get it tattooed on my bicep.

Thank you so much for this post. It's so very true and serves as a great reminder that even during those dark and lonely days of revising, querying, etc, there are others to keep us company.
