Today is what?!

SF and I have just returned from our second AMAZING SCBWI National Conference in Los Angeles. I am so tired, (from having too much fun) that I can't even find words to describe it yet. Luckily, SF is a world class note taker, so it's her job to actually describe it... and post all the important stuff you need to know about how to write more effectively. I volunteered for pure "fluff" posting :-)

On the flight home, we leisurely chatted about books and screenplays, and I was able to outline most of my YA novel. Woo Hoo! Thanks to Bruce Coville's amazing workshop on plotting, I have finally figured out how to braid my storylines. (SF will explain that later) BTW, did anyone else love Lisa Yee's recommendation to revise your draft in a different font with slightly different margins, to give it a fresh look? Brilliant!

Not long before we arrived back in sunny Mississippi where the temperature was 95 degrees at 9:00 p.m., we suddenly looked at each other and said, "HOLY MOLY OUR KIDS START SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!" This realization sent panic through my body as I knew that today I had to leave thoughts of books and fun friends behind and wake up early to make school lunches, flat iron my pre-teens hair - (she requested this for day one of cuteness) go to the grocery store, do the laundry, fill out all of their school forms, and so much more I think my brain might explode.

They are kinda cute though, aren't they?

**SCBWI conference wrap-up coming soon...

Sorry, I commented and then realized that there was a glaring typo. Here we go again . ..

Whew! My notes will be coming in a few days.

I had a little warning about what I was coming home to when I checked in the other night and my babysitter mentioned that my house was still standing. Hmm. . . but when I walked in the door, I was pleasantly surprised by the (sort of) order in my home. Things were picked up (mostly).

It wasn't until today, when I was putting away some things in my daughter's room, that I opened up the Monopoly box. It contained a random assortment of Barbie shoes, a wet bathing suit, and a broken lightbulb. I've been finding little treasures like that all over my house--under beds, blankets, tables, and the little mountains of dirty clothes. This is going to take years to undo!!!

As an aside, I do think the monopoly box is a great metaphor for writing--What looks like a pink princess monopoly box from the outside contains the unexpected . . .

Anyway--I'll just end this with a quote from the brilliant Margaret Peterson Haddox--"Dig In!!!"

I miss you guys so much!

It was a fantastic conference and hanging out with all the new friends was the best part! We were having so much fun I accidentally forgot to go to Bruce Coville's workshop on plotting!! Aaahhh...

Looking forward to SF's notes!

Good luck with the "undoing" of all the messes!

Thanks Eve! We love Y'ALL too!!!!

Love that you are proudly sporting your new hat around town :-) (my kids told me it wasn't as cool to wear it around here -ha!)

Keep sending blog love and hopefully we'll see you next year at Camp...Ummm ...I was trying to think of something really funny. Ha! ha! but my brain is frozen. Oh well.

Aren't fluff posts the most fun? Your idea about an omni-blog for all of us is a great idea, I think, so we can constantly, unhealthily reminisce about our fabulous weekend.

And, like Eve, I am REALLY looking forward to those Bruce Coville plotting notes. Y'all take care now!

We miss all of you too!

Tyler, how do I get to your website?? Katie said it's great.

And, yeah, I agree with Katie's daughter--the "y'all hats" just aren't as cool down here for some reason. Go figure! Glad you're wearing yours proudly Eve.

I'm itching to get to my notes and fill you in, but did I mention???? I'm having a dinner party over here tomorrow night!! Yikes! At least, I've gotten to the bottom of the laundry mountain today.

Hugs--SF

Oh!! I just clicked on your picture and read your hilarious and fun blog, Tyler. So, it's not a website.

I've totally got your back on the Coville "plotting" speech. Check here in a couple of days. sf

Hello friends! May I first issue a blanket apology for any off-colored remarks I may have made under the influence of too much gin? Okay, now we can move on.

I feel like I did after leaving summer camp as a kid - totally dissatisfied with my real life and wanting to be back at camp!

I loved meeting you and am really enjoying your blog. Looking forward to summer camp next year!

xo, Christy
