Katie vists the ER

Well, I guess it had to happen. My sweet husband gave me new knives for Valentines day (as well as chocolate, of course :), which was just about the most romantic thing ever because I didn't ask for them! He just knows that for anyone who loves to cook (me! me!) getting new knives ROCKS! Until you almost cut your finger off...

Enjoy the gory photos. Only a blogger would pull her camera out and document it. And fear not - I figured out how to type even though my hand is bandaged up. Desperation is the inventor of ... Wait, how does that go? Desperation breeds invention? Eh.. You get the idea.

P.S. Stay tuned for some awesome interviews we have coming up including a fascinating chat with Stephanie Perkins about her incredible trip to Paris! In addition, we are dining with Ingrid Law and Watt Key this week and hope to quiz them about their writing too. Oh! And then there's the little letter I sent to a famous man who's name rhymes with Ron Wisham, asking him about his foray into children's books. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm not sure that one will pan out. But ya never know!
Later Gators. I gotta go rewrap my pinky :-)

Um, wow. That is really gross, yucky, icky, painful-looking...

I'm glad you're okay and that it wasn't any worse. Brand new knives are sharp little suckers! :-)

Oh my gosh, Katie, that looks AWFUL! I'm so sorry that happened. And stitches - you almost lost your finger, didn't you? Yikes!!!

Sending you good wishes and prayers . . .

Oh, Katie, man that turned my stomach! Yikes. This is why I use dull knives :)

Glad you can smile about it!

Oh my dear! You got yourself something good. Way to go on figuring out how to type with a partially broken finger!

Holy cow! You poor thing! Thanks for being so dedicated to your blog that you'd even think to take pictures during the whole event ... you are a trooper! Hope it is healing well, and not causing too much pain (it looks to be in a horrid location on the finger ... not that any location would be good!).

These pics are so up my alley. Girl, I can handle a little surgery. I once got to see a finger reattached. Very cool. Had they decided, however, to cure you with maggots I'd be throwing up.

You are so bad ass.

Yikes! I had to scroll down to the comments (quickly). I hope you are okay and it wasn't your favorite typing finger.

Wow, you and my sister should join the don't use new knives club. I'm hoping you feel better. I agree with Christina Lee, Tell, not Show (at least not with gory pictures). :)

Ack!!! Glad you're okay.

Takes me back to sixth grade -- when I got a sewing machine for my birthday. In just a few hours, I had put a needle through my finger and took a trip to the emergency room to get it carved out!

Oh my goodness, ya'll are so sweet! For some reason, I wasn't able to get the comments?! Must check my settings.

It really didn't hurt that much (thus the smile :) I think I must have cut a nerve or something?

But yes. Thank God it wasn't a food processor!

Katie, I'm so sorry to hear of your injury and I admire your willingness to document even the painful parts of life, but BLECH! YUCK! EEWWW! Gag.... I am a major blood weeny and this ranks up there with reading horror stories. (Can you tell me color is rather green right now?!)

Eeek! I can't believe you could even WATCH that, much less take pictures! Should I say thanks for sharing? haha. Yeah, I totally was entertained. Glad you didn't cut your finger off!

Also --- I definitely would do something like that to myself by accident. You're not alone.
