Books and Babies...

After visiting my neighbor's new baby, I was thinking about my WIP (book 2) and how excited I am to get back to it - and then I realized I don't remember feeling this crazy love for my first.

Now, don't get me wrong, I grew to adore Book One but Book Two... it gives me tingles. Not in the writing of it yet - I'm not all that far and I've heard writing the second one is almost harder than the first. But, the idea and the research part has me all giddy.

It made me reflect on my babies and how I learned to mother with my first, making it part grueling, part perfect - kinda like Book Baby One. It was my first. I had a lot of learning to do.

But, with BB2, I know what I'm doing. I know about plot points and what they feel like and how to strengthen my characters etc... It's easier - almost blissful. Dang, I can't wait for you to meet my babies. They are completely adorable :-)

Anyone else feel this way?

What an excellent way to think about it! I'm still on my first baby but I look forward to wonderful feelings on the second!!

Holy crap that picture is ridiculously cute. I feel all girly and fertile, which is weird, caue I am SO not having babies anytime soon.

Yup, exactly. Lots of learn as you go and asking other folks how they did it.

Great analogy.

And I nominated you guys for an award - actually two, since I did mine together.

I love this pic! It makes having twins look so appealing!

Since I'm still lugging my first baby on my hip, I can't begin to imagine adding another.

No worries Jen. I worked on my first for 3 years! But I love that durn book. And it just keeps getting better as time goes on.

I love that the twins made Emily all "girly and fertile!" ha!

Thanks Anne! I'm on my way over to receive our award :-)

Tamika, I agree. I wanted twins after this - but I have Book Babies instead which are much easier.

Hi SF! See ya later :-)

I wish. I hate my second book. It was my third that made me all fuzzy inside. And the one I'm trying to perfect now is actually my seventh.

Yeah, I've had a lot of practice novels.

Good luck with your second book! So glad it makes you happy.

I LOVE that picture. And I feel exactly the same way about our books. The first one is all about figuring out how it works. And the second? Sometimes I think it's just as hard because you're trying not to make the same mistakes you made with the first. Motherhood is a bitch.

Aww, that is such a great analogy! I hadn't thought of it that way. You really do learn how to be a mom with that first child, then the second is like natural or something. Not that I ever got gutsy enough to have a second child...but write another book, THAT I'm willing to do! ;-)
