So, I spent Sunday decorating for Christmas.
No. I'm not one of "those" people--you know the ones who send out their Christmas cards the day after Thanksgiving and have their shopping finished in June. I am the crazy person who has agreed to let her house be on tour for the Jr. Auxiliary's Christmas Tour of Homes. And, today a local magazine came over to take some photographs of our dining room mantle.
As I was climbing down from the attic with an armload of whatever was on top of my rubbermaid bins marked "Christmas", I looked by our back door. This is what I saw:
Yes. It is leftover from last year. I never put it up.
So, at least that's done. The mantle has to be reworked when I get all of my stuff out--I just stood in the dark attic and grabbed at random and (in the words of Tim Gunn) "made it work." But the doormat can stay. Maybe even for another year.
And, surely I'm setting myself up for some good karma in the world of children's books. All of the proceeds from the tour go to projects that help children. It's all for a good cause. Keep repeating that to yourself, sf. It's all for a good cause . . .

First I am jealous you got a head start on that :) Second, it looks so pretty!!
It looks gorgeous! And I love the mat...it would go with the lights I left up until June....
Have fun!

Love it. I think I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't get all that excited for Christmas decorations. It drives my husband crazy.
It looks awesome! I love decorating for Christmas, but there's no way my husband would let me put out a thing until after Thanksgiving!
I wish my mantle looked that gorgeous! It makes me look forward to getting my stuff out - I'm not quite ready though....

I haven't decorated for Xmas since 2006, since my stepmother passed away. Maybe this year I'll dig out the box of decorations...
Your house looks great and so festive!
Very nice. We decorate the day after Thanksgiving instead of shopping. Mostly because I hate shopping, but it works. :)
Very nice. I'm still gathering up spiders and little plastic pumpkins from Halloween, but your mantle inspired me to get a move on.
Too funny! Your mantle looks stunning AND what a fantastic cause!!!
Oh goodness. I haven't even BEGUN to think about Christmas, much less Thanksgiving! I needed this post to get my butt in gear!
Fa la la la la I'm a freak show about Christmas. I got into the spirit when I walked into Starbucks this morning and saw all the little frosted goodies in the window. Did you know they now have a completely frosted polar bear cookie? Oh, and the Cranberry Bliss Bar, the Gingerbread loaf, the Peppermint Mocha latte? I just can't even stand looking at all that sugar while listening to Nora Jones Christmas CD through the speakers. I thought I would burst and confetti and streamers would fly out of me. I ran upstairs and insisted we bust out some tinsel immediately.
Merry Decorating, sister.
Bring it on.
Every year as I put away my Christmas decorations, I wonder what I'm going to overlook and leave out all year.
Laughing about the rug!
Lisa...or Laura...I'm with you. I like Christmas, but I get more jazzed about Halloween. But it drives my husband crazy too since Xmas is his favorite, favorite time of the year. Ah well.
Mantle looks great, Sarah!
I put my Christmas stuff up the day after Halloween (and my daughter's friends let me know that their mothers think I decorate way too early). Ha! Don't they know the fun of a holiday is the building up to it?
Beautiful pictures. Thanks!
As crazy as it felt to decorate so early, it was really kind of fun . . . and, my sister-in-law is from Canada where they celebrate Thanksgiving in October giving them a long, leisurely holiday season. Maybe we should work on this in the U.S.???
Lila--how could you not love Christmas decor? It's bling city!!
And, Ms J--how dare you tempt me with the Starbucks holiday sugar parade!! We have no Starbucks here in small town Mississippi. I might have to drive to Memphis just so I can stand in front of the Starbucks counter and drool. And Nora Jones Christmas CD??? Are you kidding me?? Such a thing actually exists--I'm heading to itunes right now.
Hi Joanna!!! Ooooo, I love Halloween, too. But, I have to say that all the sparkly things at Christmas make me happy.
