Date Night Drama

So, SF's and my books are out in the world in the hands of dreamy people which leaves me a little free time before I start book two. While she is busy revising her illustrations, I am doing things like cardio tennis (which is so much fun), shopping for a blue outfit to wear in LA and eating out with my husband. Here we are at Snackbar - a hot new bistro in Oxford. (which, if you are in town, you MUST try)

There were so many people in there that I couldn't help but look around. We sat next to this young couple who looked to be in their mid 20's and no sooner did this girl's date stand up to go to the bathroom, did another fellow rush over and sit down. I immediately told my own husband not to talk to me because I needed to do some heavy eavesdropping and this is what I heard:

Boy: I know you think I'm an a$$, but I really miss you!
(This is gonna be good)
Girl: I am on a date, What the heck are you doing?
(Hilarious!)
Boy: Well, I want to take you out to dinner.
(Ballsy)
Girl: I AM out to dinner. You're too late.
(Yeah. Take that sucka!)
Boy: (frustrated) You name the time. Anytime! PLEASE!
(I have to admire this guy's persistence in getting the girl he wants. And admitting that he is a royal screw-up.)

Then I see her date in my peripheral coming BACK to the table which meant I gave Hubby the eyes that mean, "Don't make a move, this is getting goooood."

Bathroom boy walks around the table noticing that there is another guy in his seat. Seated-date-stealer looks up from the stolen chair and offers his hand, "Hey man. I'm Joe. Nice to meet you."

Bathroom boy rolls eyes not understanding why someone is in his chair while girl is visibly panicking.
Date-stealer looks at girl with pleading eyes and I feel the pressure...

Girl: Okay. I'll think about it.
(Get him out of that chair and fast!)
Boy (date-stealer) Okay. Good.
(Lawsy, I'm not so sure you are gonna get what you want)

Whew! I must say, I loved that brief drama, and if I wasn't nearly deaf in one ear, I would have been able to report her real date's reaction which was definitely an issue. Darnit!

However, Lindsey and I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend the lobster Mac n' cheese. Yumm!

P.S. After dinner we went to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and it SUCKS! Don't waste your money. Has anyone else seen it??

OMG - Date night drama! You totally need to use that in a scene in your next book. Love it.

Umm..and cardio tennis? I need to hear more. I love tennis and I need cardio, so I'm thinking that sounds like a good combination.

Cardio tennis is the BOMB! The coach just drills balls at you. So you might hit 3 forehands and 3 backhands and then you run around the net and collect six balls before running back to do it again. And the drills change. So next time it might be a forehand, backhand, midcourt, two volleys and an overhead.

Then more running and more collecting balls.

My butt is KILLING ME! In a good way :-)

Sad when bar dram is better than movie drama! And you even got an amazing looking drink with bar drama!

You didn't hear the date's reaction! this is like reading a book and realizing someone tore out the last chapter - damn it ;)

Funny, but also a little creepy -- was he stalking her, or was it a coincidence he was there? Eek! Also, LOVE the Goth tea party stuff. Fabulous!!!

I'm back after a super-great, super- quick grip to NY. I didn't see a single face mask!

Wish I'd been there for the Snack Bar drama. E.J. You're exactly right--life can be so very interesting when you pay attention.

Katie, the best part is your commentary. :) ADORABLE. Definitely better than Ghosts. Ugh. Where are the good movies???

I love listening to dialogue--that was a great one!

And how do u get hubster to see movies like that? No one will stay in the room with me when I rent them...

Isn't people watching/listening fun? I met a writer in Colorado wearing a shirt that said, "Be careful or you'll end up in my next book!" Sounds like the people you heard would be prime candidates :^)

Oh my goodness ... that is too funny! What a riot ... dinner AND entertainment! :-) Bummer about the '..Girlfriends..' movie ... I had high hopes for that one ... love Jen Garner, and thought she and Matthew would make for a great pairing.
