What the Pho??
Pho: A Vietnamese beef and noodle soup.[2] The soup includes noodles made from rice and is often served with basil, lime, bean sprouts and peppers that are added to the soup by the consumer.
So, the other day I was having my nails done when the cute Vietnamese couple that owns the salon asked me which asian restaurants I like.
"I like the Pho at Cafe X," I replied.
Their noses wrinkled in disgust. "That's not real, you realize."
Huh?
They went on to say, "We make the real thing every other week. Do you wanna come over and see how to do it?"
"like, to your house?" I asked.
They nodded and then gave me directions to the Vietnamese grocery store in Memphis where I am supposed to get the bone marrow (gross!) and beef tendons (double gross!) that I need to make it.
Although horrified by the ingredients (since I am an aspiring vegetarian), I did think this might be a fun summer project - to learn to make "real Pho."
So, that's my plan.
Anyone else have any fun, weird, summer goals?
Katie
P.S. I'll take pics when I learn how :)

Ewwww to the real ingredients! This is why I like my ethnic from restaurants. I don't have to think about what's in it. :)
I was on the "ooooo, this sounds yummy" train until I hit bone marrow and beef tendons. Now? Not so sure. :-)
Do you invite me to taste?!... Hummm
Ha!!! "Faux Pho!"

Pho Sho!
Katie - you are just interesting, you know that! Love it.
I think the bone marrow forced me Vegan. I am just now starting to eat meat after Food, Inc.
I think it is SO CUTE that you are an "aspiring vegetarian." Just saying. xxoo
Very cool! I can't wait to see you in thier house, making Pho. Woot!! And those ingredients gross me out too. Yuck! Bone marrow??? *shudder*
It looks mouth-watering ... the ingredients, however, sound horrific! What an adventure you're in for ... keep us posted! :-)
Why am I getting the feeling that the Pho photos will gross me out as much as the gashed hand photos! This is such a good reason to be a vegetarian, which I am!
