Holy Moly, WE have been interviewed!!!

Today SF and I had our first official photo shoot. We have been interviewed by Oxford's social magazine as up and coming "pre-published" children's authors. The next big thing :-) (Dear God, please help us sell a book and not let these people down.)

We got such a kick out of this because we frequently joke about needing footage of us working - for the E! True Hollywood Story that we are sure to be featured in one day. LOL

BUT... what struck me today was how utterly blessed and humbled I am to think that there are people at this magazine and in this town who want us to succeed as much as we do! That our community is pulling for us and featuring us in articles BEFORE we have actually done anything?!

Now that's an amazing town!

P.S. The cool photographer whose back you see actually emailed us after the shoot to tell us that we ROCK! How cool is that?! Thanks Joey Brent! You rock for boosting our egos and encouraging us in this journey!

HOLY MOLY is right! Oxford rocks!

Man, I had to practically beg to be interviewed here when I won the Southwest Book Award.

(keeping the jealousy imps at bay here . . .)

I know it's crazy! And for the record. We do NOT have any relatives or best friends at the magazine. But we have made some new ones :-)

P.S. your town SUCKS if they could not see the genius Southwest Book award winner in their midst!

P.P.S. SF and Joey (the photog) decided that they were cousins. They just decided this based on her likeness to his other cousins - ha! And the fact that his last name is her maiden name. Oh! And they are both from Mississippi. (apparently all Mississippians are related somehow)

Well, you DO rock!! And you know what's great about this?? It gives you some additional accountability. Now when you have that moment when you feel like giving up, you'll be like, well, NO, we can't, because what about our readers, our fans, our PEOPLE?? Can't wait to see the mag!

Your PPS is SO funny!

Irene makes a great point - the accountability factor. Use it for motivation to spur you on to do your rewrite for the agent.

I know you're having a hard time getting started, but I think that's pretty normal - if it helps to know that!

In January I got a couple of critiques on my Egyptian novel and I've spent two entire weeks just mulling over the *mean* comments and trying to figure out HOW THE HECK I'm going to accomplish everything she suggested. It's daunting. And the manuscript is 380 pages long so it's a massively huge story - but I know it can be better. Darn it.

How exciting! You live in such a wonderful little place. It must be so energizing to be around so many supportive people and have the opportunity to write with a friend. Much luck! I hope you make the cover!

I do hope you will scan the ENTIRE article and post it here for us all to see! This is so exciting!

Woo! First a classroom visit and now photos and interviews. You guys are practically celebrities already!

I agree with Christy, definitely make that article available for us all to see.

We had so much fun at our photo shoot, and we've both already lined up Joey to do our official author photo for our book jackets. Whew! Glad to have that decision out of the way.

Also, my new cuz is actually from Tennessee . . . but it's the South which is pretty much inbred. So, I'm sure we're related. Plus, we look alike.

Great point about accountability, Irene. I've lost count of all my rejection letters, so I need a little boost to keep me going from time to time. (Actually, I know the exact count, but I won't publish it here because it's quite unbelievable and a bit depressing)

Kimberley, shame on your town. Their loss!!

And, yeah, we'll have to figure out a way to link to or post the article. We've already been cooking up ideas for the follow up--you know the article we hope they'll write after we've actually been published . . . .

Irene, you are so right! That accountability is HUGE.

And JJ, as in "Little Ms. J," thanks! It IS energizing! But sadly we will not be on the cover. (I already asked.) And the aforementioned article may be fairly small. We are not sure, but we'll take anything!

Kimbo, the brainfreeze is past and SF and I are on a roll!

Tyler and Christy, we will see what we can do. I am bracing myself for a tiny article which should scan quite easily.

Katie - I found your blog through Corey's. Congratulations on the early success. I hope the momentum continues for you and your books.

I would also like to invite you to my site. Your insight would add a lot to the articles. http://the-new-author.blogspot.com

Oh my gosh. I'm changing my name to Katie Scarlett and buying a ticket. (Yes, I've had these thoughts before)

But a town that is like a proud parent, really -- that's wonderful!

Please post the article or a link to it for us.
