Mad about Mad Men

People have been telling me about the AMC series Mad Men forever, saying that I absolutely HAD to see it. I've been meaning to . . . Then, my neighbor showed up at my front door this weekend with his box set of the entire first season.

"You must watch it so we can discuss."

John and I watched the first two episodes last night, and all I can say is OMG. The sets, the camera-work, the characters, the clothes (Oh my goodness--the clothes) . . . I'm in love. The show is absolutely smoldering.

For those of you who have been living under the same rock as I have, Mad Men tells the story of a group of Madison Avenue ad executives in the early sixties. Everything is authentic to the decade--the attitudes, the cars, the low ceilings. Take a look at these pix from the show:

And, I just read that Christine Hendricks (aka office manager, Joan) was just selected by Esquire Magazine as the sexiest woman alive.

I'll say . . .

And for a hilarious look at why some of us like this show so much, check out the Stuff White People Like blog.

Mad Men theme party? I'm in.

Does this mean I have to climb out from under my rock? But I like my rock - it's safe and cozy and familiar. :-)

Yes, yes... I know everyone loves this show. But there's only so many hours I can watch TV and still be able to have a life and eat and read and WRITE! My TV viewing hours are spoken for. Of course, if one of my shows goes off the air, a space will open up!

Ha! I was about to say I saw this as one of the things white people like!

I still haven't had a chance to watch this show and one of our friends swears Mr. J is like the handsome leading man, Whatshisname. I think that makes me a lucky girl.

I bought the first two seasons for my husband's Christmas present, so I have no excuse not to watch it. (Other than I'm super busy with my writing).

SOLD! Lisa and Laura rave about this one too. Ask your neighbor if I can borrow the CDs next.

Best. Show. EVER. Can't wait for the show to start up again this summer. It's SO good.

And also something white people like. It turns out I like a lot of things that white people like. Which makes sense. I sort of wish I wasn't white just to be ironic or something.

I'm not sure I'm ready to climb out from underneath my rock, though this story sounds pretty interesting. I've seen the show for awhile now, I haven't watched it but I've seen previews and I'm just one of those people that after I've missed so many I'm not sure it's worth trying it out.

I say that and yet I'm going to try and watch Glee tonight... yes I make no sense, lol!
